Twenty years ago — 1999
Three local sisters recently received college degrees: the Misses Jody, Heidi and Darcy Sanderson, all daughters of Ms. Sally Ann Sanderson of Dunkirk. Jody was awarded a bachelor of arts in psychology from Daemen College in Buffalo. Heidi graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a master’s degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism administration. Darcy earned a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in mathematics from Nazareth College of Rochester.
Thirty years ago — 1989
A visit to Jamestown’s city hall, a motorcade and an exhibit of memorabilia are among the items on the itinerary for Lucille Ball’s upcoming visit to Jamestown. Miss Ball, a Jamestown native, will visit the city in late May to receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at Jamestown Community College. The public will have an opportunity to see the famous comedienne on May 19 when she visits downtown Jamestown as part of a motorcade. She will receive a key to the city during a noontime ceremony.
Forty years ago — 1979
The Chautauqua County Department of Health has high praise for the operation of the Dunkirk city water filtration plant on Lake Shore Drive West. The quality of the water as reported each month confirms that Stanley Pachol, chief operator of the plant, and Timothy Desmond, plant chemist, are operating the plant very effectively.
Fifty years ago — 1969
“The Growing Child in Contemporary Society,” co-authored by Sister Marie (Baptiste) Pollard, director of the Boorady Reading Center in Dunkirk, and Sister Barbara Geoghegan, was recently published by the Bruce Publishing Co. It is the second textbook written by the two nuns. The first, “Developmental Psychology,” was published in 1965 and was written in conjunction with Dr. W. A. Kelly.
