Thirty years ago — 1989

Joseph T. Doino, a former area resident who now resides in Burbank, Calif., has been called “one of the most influential men in California commercial business.” He is currently the vice president in the shopping center development division for Forest City Enterprises, a multi-faceted commercial development company with offices in Los Angeles, Cleveland, Tucson, New York and San Francisco. Mr. Doino is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rocco Doino of Dunkirk and the brother of Dr. Rocco Doino of Fredonia and David Doino of Dunkirk.

Forty years ago — 1979

Several first-time office seekers are on the slate of candidates endorsed by the Dunkirk City Republican Committee at its recent meeting at the Dunkirk Club. Of the 11 endorsed candidates, seven will be seeking election to Dunkirk city offices for the first time on Nov. 6. They are: Robert Teclaw, first ward councilman; Carol Brown, fourth-ward councilwoman; Barbara Kulig, clerk of the board of assessors; Gerald Dolce, assessor; Donald Rodgers and Charles Briggs, county legislators.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Graduation exercises for 222 members of the Dunkirk High School Class of 1969 were held Sunday, June 22. The 111th commencement program was preceded by a social hour in the faculty dining room for guests and members of the board of education. The program included remarks by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Cooley, who gave the welcome, and Joseph Parlato, director of secondary education. Salutatorian Mary Ann Kolassa gave the opening speech and Donna Parmelee presented the valedictory address. Thomas Muzacz, class president, lead the pledge of allegiance.
