Twenty years ago — 1999
Bryan Tye, a 1996 graduate of Dunkirk High School, was recently selected by Manhattan Model Search in New York City during an open call for new modeling talent. He will attend a regional show in Durham, N.C., this month where he will be interviewed and meet with top modeling agencies from around the world. He has just finished his first major modeling photo shoot with professional photographer, Peter Vinal. Bryan is the son of former Dunkirk residents Edwin and Arlene (Schrantz) Dejesus.
Thirty years ago — 1989
The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo is considering a proposal to convert the former Cardinal Mindszenty High School on Central Avenue in Dunkirk into about 21 units of affordable housing for moderate income people. The building has been vacant for more than 10 years and is becoming a blighting influence on the neighborhood.
Forty years ago — 1979
John Sack of Silver Creek, who made an offer to the Silver Creek Central School Board to purchase the Main Street School for $15,000 has submitted a check for that amount to the board. The school board has accepted this as evidence of Mr. Sack’s intention and ability to consummate the purchase of the building. The board will decide at its next meeting whether or not to accept Mr. Sack’s offer.
Fifty years ago — 1969
Student of the Week is Richard Ludeman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merwin Ludeman, 31 Babcock St., Silver Creek. A senior at Silver Creek Central School, he ranks first academically in his class. Richard is president of the National Honor Society and a varsity letterman in basketball and cross-country. He plans to further his education at Houghton College.
