Thirty years ago — 1990
Members of the American Legion Post 59 in Fredonia recently donated a new pool table valued at about $1,300 to the teen center in Fredonia Village Hall. Jim Wright is the current commander of the Legion. Since the teen center opened in July, an estimated 5,000 area teens have used it, averaging about 60 teens per session.
Forty years ago — 1980
Pontiac Motor Division has awarded Spacc Pontiac of Dunkirk their Service Excellence Award for 1979. The award is for “achieving excellent performance in customer satisfaction” as measured by percent of customer complaints. The award is limited to the top 25% of Pontiac dealers.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Alan F. Washington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Washington, 138 West Sixth St., Dunkirk, has received a Ford Foundation research grant in underdevelopmental mental psychology. He will do his research work in Boston, Mass., Washington, D.C., and Columbia, S.C.
