Thirty years ago — 1990
SUNY Fredonia French Professor Dr. Thomas H. Goetz has been honored for the second time by the French government for his efforts to promote French civilization and culture. Dr. Goetz, editor of the international scholarly journal “Nineteenth Century French Studies,” has been promoted to the rank of officer in the French Order of Academic Palms.
Forty years ago — 1980
Elizabeth Walldorff was recently named a finalist in the 1980 National Merit Scholarship competition. A senior at Dunkirk High School, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walldorff of Temple Road, Dunkirk. Elizabeth is a dean’s list student in the SUNY Fredonia 3-1-3 program and was one of four finalists in the American Legion Girls Empire State competition. She has been accepted to Cornell University where she hopes to pursue studies in veterinary medicine.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Mrs. Mary “Mayme” Whitney, who is retiring today after 40 years of service as the secretary of the pupil personnel department with the Dunkirk Public Schools, was honored at a testimonial dinner.
