Thirty years ago — 1990

A recent episode of “American’s Funniest Videos” included a video of synchronized swimming by John and David Banach of Dunkirk. The two were filmed by Cas Piglowski, 208 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk who submitted the tape to the program.

Forty years ago — 1980

Eighty-seven seniors from 16 area high schools are enrolled in the 3-1-3 program at Fredonia State University College this year. In 3-1-3, the student studies three years in high school, then one year of high school and college courses combined and then three years of college. The program provides students with the opportunity to shorten their college careers or to simply get a better understanding of what college will have to offer them.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The National Association of Mental Health has awarded Mrs. August R. Jankowski of Dunkirk a certificate of commendation “in recognition of services given as a volunteer in the fight against mental illness and the advancement of mental health.” A professional singer, she performs for patients at the Gowanda State Hospital and residents of the Chautauqua County Home and Infirmary.
