Preliminary information on a proposed development at the former Ames Department Store on Bennett Road in the town of Dunkirk that would include an eight-screen movie theater and $2 million in improvements and renovations was released at a Fredonia Village Board workshop meeting.
Forty years ago — 1980
The First United Presbyterian Church was organized May 22, 1830 — the second church to be established in the city of Dunkirk. During this, the church’s 150th anniversary, it will rededicate itself as a community of faith and affirm the presence of God. The Presbyterian Church began with 10-charter members, six of whom had transferred from the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. Today, the church has a membership of just under 300.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Dawn Evans, 17, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Elmer E. Evans of 9 Park St., Sinclairville, has been selected Student of the Week at Cassadaga Valley Junior-Senior High School.
