Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1990

Dan Hall, a sophomore at Dunkirk High School, won the Mark J. Smith Award, which includes a monetary gift, for having the most extensive independent study of all projects at the Allegheny Mountain Science Fair, held recently at the Jamestown Community College campus in Olean. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hall, 19 Doughty St., Dunkirk, his project was the “Analysis of Alcohol Usage in a New York High School,” a Biology Club project under the direction of Brent Wolford.

Forty years ago — 1980

Calendar Girl for the month of April is Jane Fleming, a senior at Forestville Central School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fleming. Following graduation, Jane plans to attend Nyack on the Hudson where she will major in special education.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Clemens Lutz, who has served on the Dunkirk police force for 28 years, including two years as chief, has announced his retirement effective May 1.
