Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1990

Retired physics professor John J. Connelly of Fredonia State University College recently presented the third $1,000 donation to a scholarship fund he established there three years ago to benefit outstanding physics majors. After retiring from a long career with the U.S. Navy, Dr. Connelly taught for 21 years at the college.

Forty years ago — 1980

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting took place recently for the Ole Firehouse Restaurant on Main Street in Forestville. Several area dignitaries officiated at the ceremony with refreshments and giveaways the order of the day. The new restaurant is owned by the Goldberg family.

Fifty years ago — 1970

A new art gallery has been opened in the banquet room of Roof’s Restaurant, Main Street, Silver Creek under the sponsorship of the Hanover Art Club. The first show is comprised of a variety of media being presented by Mrs. Lorraine Quinn and Mrs. Jeanette Burgess.
