Thirty years ago — 1990

The Mayville Village Board has accepted a gift of a donation of a “Peace Pole” to be placed near the gazebo at the Mayville Lakeside Park. Peace poles are obelisks inscribed with the message “May Peace Prevail On Earth.” They have been dedicated the world over as an international symbol of peace. The Peace Pole Project was started in Japan and became international in 1986.

Forty years ago — 1980

Charles W. Wilde, who recently retired from his service station business, was presented the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award by the Rev. Frederick Kates at the annual Greater Silver Creek Area Chamber of Commerce banquet. The Rev. Kates was last year’s recipient of the honor.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Miss Ardyce R. Carlson was named valedictorian of the senior class at Westfield Academy and Central School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Carlson, 75 Union St., Westfield. Salutatorian is David Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Ross, Bliss Road, Westfield.
