Thirty years ago — 1990
The cutline from a “Do You Remember?” photo: In September 1940, the tomato canning season was a very busy time at the Gervas Canning Co. in Fredonia. Women trimmed the tomatoes by hand before they were sent on for other processing. Fortunately, tomatoes still are handled by some local firms and this results in pleasant aromas during the fall.
Forty years ago — 1980
Stanley H. Pachol, who has served as the chief operator at the Dunkirk city water filtration plant since 1962, retired May 6 after a 34-year career at the water plant on Lake Shore Drive West. During his service as chief operator, Mr. Pachol had been responsible for the pumpage of over 32 billion gallons of water to customers.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Jose Feliciano, popular blind guitarist, was the featured performer last week in a concert presented by Fredonia State University College.
