Thirty years ago — 1990

Sheridan residents are being urged to attend one of four special meetings to gain information about a proposed medical waste treatment facility for the industrial park. The non-hazardous, regulated medical waste would be sterilized by steam heat and pressure over a period of time. The method is known as autoclaving. After treatment of the material, it is shredded and pressed and its volume is reduced by 70 percent and weight by 30 percent before it is placed in a landfill.

Forty years ago — 1980

Mark Stuczynski of 79 West Third St., Dunkirk bagged a 16-pound turkey he dropped outside of Cassadaga on the opening day of New York State Turkey Hunting season. It was Mark’s second success in as many years.

Fifty years ago — 1970

During the recent meeting of Hanover Hose Co. No. 1 of Silver Creek, a resolution was passed to name the new fire hall and community building in Hanover Center Miller Hall in honor of Theodore “Bill” Miller, a charter member of the company.
