Thirty years ago — 1991

John Daly, moderator of television’s “What’s My Line?” has died at the age of 77. From 1950 to 1967, he hosted the popular show in which a panel of regulars tried to guess the unusual and offbeat occupations of guests, before donning blindfolds and trying to name the identity of a celebrity “mystery guest.” Its 18 years on prime time television made it the longest running game show.

Forty years ago — 1981

A snow seal made by youngsters in Explorer Post 278 was judged the winner of a snow sculpture contest sponsored by Woodbury Vineyards. The contest was part of Woodbury’s “Glacier Ridge Winter Weekend.” Contest judges were Robert Booth, a SUNY Fredonia art professor and Sue Briggs, retail sales manager for Woodbury’s. Weather conditions limited the number of entries.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Mike Tramuta, a reading teacher at the Dunkirk Junior High School, is expected to be appointed to the part-time post of the city of Dunkirk Youth Center director.
