CONGRESS: Appearances matter in race

A special visitor made her way to Dunkirk on Dec. 15.

Candidate for Congress Martha Robertson started her journey from Tompkins County just before 6 a.m. that day. During the drive, she encountered some rough weather conditions, but she continued.

By 11 a.m., Robertson had arrived in Dunkirk and was offered a seat by Democratic Party Chairman Norm Green. She was in Dunkirk to celebrate a special announcement of the repowering of the NRG power plant.

Robertson’s journey, however, is no longer in the early stages. When she announced her candidacy for Congress last spring, national pundits took notice. The race between Robertson and incumbent Tom Reed is one that many are watching not only statewide, but nationally, as well.

In the long district that spans the Southern Tier and portions of the Finger Lakes, appearances are everything in the race for the 23rd District of Congress. Expect to see a lot of both candidates in the coming year.
