Local groundhog has optimism

We admit it. We are a little biased toward our furry friend Dunkirk Dave.

His venture out on Groundhog Day brought good news for those who have tired of the long winter: expect an early spring. “We noticed he didn’t show any activity or he wasn’t scared, like he wanted to run back in the house. … So, we’re going to have early spring weather instead of six more weeks of winter, because he didn’t show any reaction to running back inside or being scared,” said his handler Bob Will on Sunday morning.

Famous Phil from Punxsutawney, Pa., was not as optimistic. Somehow, he happened to see his shadow despite the clouds and fog, signifying another six weeks of winter.

Again, we’re biased. We like Dave’s prediction better.
