Loss of partnership comes at poor time

Talk about bad timing.

While Dunkirk schools finances seem to be in adequate shape, Fredonia needs all the help it can get. For years, school Superintendent Paul DiFonzo has bemoaned the shrinking amount of aid sent to the district by the state.

Last week, the district learned it was losing a partnership with Dunkirk in the prekindergarten program. Why was this so important?

It’s tied to the Gov. Andrew Cuomo plan of sharing services and consolidating to ease the already high burden taken on by property taxpayers. Initiatives like these will lead to lower property taxes.

Fredonia has lost a partner. If anything, the state needs to not penalize the district for its efforts.
