Fund-raiser: Event assists teacher, students

One of the more powerful messages sent by our former U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins was that our country needed to come together as one and find a cure for cancer. That theme of the Congressman has been evident during the time he has held office and he continues the fight.

On Thursday, Higgins would be proud to know Fredonia schools is holding a fund-raiser to benefit a teacher who was recently diagnosed with the disease and some of its students. The chicken dinner event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with proceeds to benefit the childhood pediatric center – www.stbaldricks.org – and defray medical expenses.

Reservations are needed in this case and can be made by calling 679-1581, ext. 2425.

During the same day, students will participate in Crazy Hair Day! Students are asked to donate $1 for the St. Baldrick’s Pediatric Cancer Association and are encouraged to wear their hair in “any crazy way they would like.”

“We will pass out the bracelets on April 10 so that everyone can wear one on their right wrist to show how we work together to fight cancer,” wrote fourth-graders Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer, Victoria Spacciapolli and Taryn Sillanpaa. “All of the fourth-graders helped to make these bracelets because we all care so much.”
