It should be clear to Americans that President Barack Obama’s opinion is that the law is what he and he alone says it is – even if it encourages wholesale slaughter of bald eagles, the nation’s symbol. If a law enacted in Congress gets in his way, Obama simply changes it.

Several months ago, The Associated Press revealed the Obama administration is not enforcing a law that makes killing bald eagles a crime, punishable by fines. If you or I do it and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service finds out, we’re in trouble.

But if it happens at an electric generating facility using windmills, no problem. Obama’s Fish and Wildlife Service has not been enforcing the law against them, even though the agency itself estimates 85 eagles are killed each year by wind turbines.

Members of Congress wanted to know more about the exemption – but the government refuses to release documents on the matter.

Lawmakers have managed to find out that the Fish and Wildlife Service plans to allow wind farm owners to kill eagles at will for at least the next 30 years. They will be given permits to do so.

Obama has decided he will enforce laws he likes, ignore those with which he disagrees – and proclaim new ones at will.

Kings and dictators operate that way. American presidents are supposed to be different.
