Sticking to job at hand

Area elected officials are at their best when they are focused on issues they can control, not issues dictated to them by the state or federal government.

It is why Pomfret Town Board member Ann Eckman is correct in not wanting to deal with the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement – or state SAFE – Act. The controversial law comes from New York state and the town has no control over it.

“I’d much rather see us focusing on consolidation, working with the fire department and working on the water district; I think for us to spend a lot of time in passing a resolution, which is going to require a lengthy discussion, is not a good use of this board’s time,” she said.

Her comments are right on target.
