It is a bizarre situation in the Hamburg school district. Its superintendent, Richard E. Jetter, has been on administrative leave since disclosing to police he fabricated a story about his car being vandalized after a school board meeting in the spring.

Jetter, more than one month later, admitted his car had been damaged in an accident to the police force there and then checked himself in to Bry-Lin Hospital in Williamsville.

Since early July, no one has seen or heard from the superintendent. In the meantime, however, he is being paid. Which only adds to the frustration of a Western New York district that seems to face challenges with its board of education and, now, its leadership.

Educators, teachers included, face a great deal of stress in a job that deals with the lives of a future generation. It is no excuse, however, for poor decisions.
