Candidates are in the spotlight

On Sunday, we urged residents to get to the Fredonia Opera House on Thursday for the public hearing on the pipeline proposals for the NRG Energy Inc. repowering project.

There is, in fact, one more reason to be there.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the League of Women Voters will be holding its annual Meet the Candidates night on the third floor in the courtroom. Sheriff Joseph Gerace as well as Family Court candidates Sally Jaroszynski, Jeffrey Piazza, James Spann and Michael Sullivan will be a part of the first hour. Sheriff challenger Russell Payne, according to a League of Women Voters representative on Monday on WDOE radio, refused to debate.

At 8, Assemblyman Andrew Goodell will then discuss the issues with challenger Barrie Yochim. Disappointingly, the candidates for Congress – incumbent Tom Reed and Martha Robertson – will not be in attendance.

An election is two weeks away. Know the issues and be educated. Don’t rely on campaign literature and television ads when deciding. Those are not the complete picture.
