Empty Bowls warms hearts

What can 1,100 hand-made pottery bowls add up to? How about $23,186.

That is the amount of money raised in the Empty Bowls fund-raiser, which benefits the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry. Nearly 800 residents were in attendance for the event the helps some 32 food pantries in the region.

This year, not only did the business community donate items and cash, but so did area schools – Brocton, Fredonia and Silver Creek.

Next year’s event will take place Dec. 5 at the Social Center of the Blessed Mary Angela Parish in Dunkirk. If previous efforts are any indication, you can expect to be bowled over by the generosity.
