Donation makes every cent count

A number of School 7 pupils in Dunkirk continued a lesson in how fund-raising can really add up.

As part of the mathathon program, the children helped raise more than $5,000 this year – and $28,000 over 11 years – toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Students who raised funds through coin collections, hoop shoots and through community clubs and businesses.

Students were honored with shirts, prizes and cake for their efforts. They also were able to meet two community residents battling cancer.

This year’s mathathon was dedicated to Linda Corbett and Mikey Edwards. Corbett worked at School 7 for many years as a teaching assistant and is fighting her own battle against leukemia. She has three grandchildren attending School 7 while Edwards is fighting his own battle with cancer and is currently in remission.
