Some of the best, worst of the week
Here are some of the best – and worst – of the week:
BEST
93 AND FEARLESS – St. Columban’s Dee Trewiler may be 93 years old, but her age isn’t slowing her down. Recently the senior citizen went zip lining at Natural Bridge Caverns just north of San Antonio, Texas. Her story was featured in this week’s Senior Scene. Last year, she went skydiving. We’ll see what happens next, but Trewiler shows us all that age is just a number.
TROLLEY LIVES – In 1997, Fredonia rolled out a 1978 Chrysler trolley from Tops Market. The vehicle has been used for class reunions, ghost tours, recreation department activities, school functions, college events and more. But the trolley has seen better days. So the vehicle is now being restored by the Erie 2 BOCES auto body program at LoGuidice. Mayor Stephen Keefe thanks Pat Damore, former trustee, for getting the trolley into the program and restored. We look forward to seeing the vehicle back on the streets in the village after it’s up and running.
KEY CLEANUP – This past week, KeyBank held its 25th annual “Neighbors Make the Difference Day.” A number of KeyBanks released their employees early on Wednesday, so they could help around the community. Locally, KeyBank employees helped out at the WCA Home in Fredonia and the YWCA in Westfield. According to KeyBank officials more than 400 employees helped out throughout Western New York. Things like this do make a difference.
WORST
HEROIN IN HIGH SCHOOL – In what may be a first for high schools in Chautauqua County, a 15-year-old male was arrested Thursday in Jamestown High School after being caught with cash, marijuana and three bags of heroin. Heroin is an extremely addictive drug and tends to be used by people with a history of drug abuse. County and school officials have been working hard at combating the drug problem, but it’s getting worse. This is a problem that needs everyone – parents, friends and teachers alike. If you see a problem, alert authorities. Be vigilant.
