Strong class for the Hall
There’s plenty of history tied to the 37th induction class of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. Last week, those set to be honored in February were named. They include Dick Cole, Curt Fischer, Lori Franchina, Sheilah (Lingenfelter) Gulas, Jim Riggs, Fran Sirianni, Clem Worosz and Phil Young.
Representing the north county are Worosz and Young, standout athletes from Dunkirk in basketball and Westfield in baseball, respectively.
Worth noting from the media is Jim Riggs, who died in 2016 and was a dedicated sports editor at The Post-Journal. Riggs wrote a weekly column and was a walking encyclopedia when it came to Jamestown minor league baseball. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Houston Oilers and Pittsburgh Pirates. If you loved sports, you loved Jim.
Our congratulations to all those honorees.
