Area sends out a salute

Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council members — and many others on Memorial Day in the city — stood each time the U.S. flag was part of a display by area groups taking part in the parade. Today, we all stand.

As noted on Page B11 in today’s edition, there are proper procedures for displaying the symbol of our nation. There are also specific ways of disposing of the flag.

Tonight, there are two ceremonies honoring Old Glory. The Elks’ Club Flag Day Ceremony is at 6 p.m. at the Dunkirk Lighthouse, 1 Lighthouse Point Drive.

At 6:30 p.m., the Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 will host a Flag Day Ceremony at 211 Central Ave. Any worn flags may be brought to the Post. Refreshments will be available following the ceremony. Public is welcome.

Wednesday night, the Cassadaga American Legion held a similar ceremony.

God bless our great country.
