Central Avenue: Construction calms traffic

Work on Central Avenue in Dunkirk is quickly progressing. As of Friday, most of the strip had been milled with paving set to begin this week.

Surprisingly, the fairly rough road has brought a safety feature. Due to the conditions, traffic has slowed with most cars driving around 25 mph.

Maybe a slower speed limit after the paving is complete is something Dunkirk Common Council can look at. It makes the strip more pedestrian and bike friendly, which equals a more welcoming downtown.

That’s easy to accomplish and no major inconvenience for anyone.
