highs and lows Some of the best, worst of the week

Here are some of the best — and worst — of the week:

BEST

EGG HUNTS — Some young children had a great time last weekend at SUNY Fredonia for Kappa Sigma’s annual egg hunt. If you missed it, there are some more today. Laona is hosting a community egg hunt at 10 a.m.; Park United Methodist Church will host an egg hunt at 10 a.m. next to the Sinclairville Elementary School; Christ Community Church on Berry Street, Fredonia will host a 12,000 egg hunt from 11:30-1:30 p.m.; and there will also be a community egg hunt at 3 p.m. in Washington Park, Dunkirk. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates.

FLOATING STAGE IS BACK — The Bemus Bay Pops program has relocated to Mayville and will be hosting the annual Pops summer program on Chautauqua Lake. The Pops programming has been around for 20 years. We’re glad to see its return and we look forward to some fun summer nights.

HELPING THE NFL — Zack Steever, a Gowanda High School alumnus and current Ph.D student at the University of Buffalo is a part of a research team that is partnering up with the NFL to help provide year-round method development and schedule testing. This is a big honor and we’re proud to have a Gowanda graduate taking part of this research.

WORST

ILLEGAL DUMPING — Someone has been dumping appliances and more along Airport, Newell and Cook roads in Sheridan. There’s no excuse for this. Anyone with information or who sees illegal dumping should call police. We hope the person responsible is caught and pays a fine much larger than it would have cost him/her if the trash was disposed of properly.
