Keeping Complete Streets in mind
The OBSERVER's view
Making our region more pedestrian friendly — and accessible for bicyclists — is a step in the right direction. That’s why it is excellent to see that Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities included a lane for bicyclists recently when striping Central Avenue.
Dunkirk was likely the first to do this, but other communities are working on the concept as well. Known as “Complete Streets,” the idea is for a more walkable downtown, something currently being discussed in Silver Creek.
The idea has caught on in larger cities across our nation and has been found to be popular with our younger generation. It is something local elected officials need to be thinking of for future municipal road projects.
