SUNDAY SHOUTOUT: Show of support on veteran’s return

The remains of Sgt. Gerald Raeymacker are taken inside the funeral home.

Sgt. Gerald Raeymacker’s return to Dunkirk on Thursday was a big deal. Those across the nation, and especially here, have shown their support and taken a great interest in the veteran who fought in the Korean War.

On Thursday, the OBSERVER took video of the return of Raeymacker to his hometown on its Facebook page. The escort from the Buffalo airport to the Dunkirk-Fredonia escort included the Patriot Guard, Sons of Liberty and the New York State Police.

The video of the return logged nearly 20,000 views along with plenty of heart-felt comments for Raeymacker’s service and the pride in our country. A city and region is proud.

Finally, 70 years later, welcome home Sgt. Gerald Raeymacker.
