SUNDAY SHOUTOUT: Giving back to a Fredonia ‘staple’

Submitted Photo Roy White got his start at Mancuso Service Center while he was still a student at Silver Creek High School and was hired full time in 1973. Since then, he’s greeted customers and pumped gas for the Main Street business, which has served the community since 1954.

Dunkirk-Fredonia has been showing its love to Roy White for more than a month. White, who has worked at Mancuso Service Center for nearly 50 years, is battling colon cancer.

On Jan. 15, White took a leave from his job of assisting customers to take care of himself. The community has stepped up to support him through donations at the service center, located on West Main Street in the village, and through a GoFundMe page that was set up to help with his costs by Regina Willey.

“Everybody knows Roy!” said Willey, whose parents own the business. “He’s basically a Fredonia staple. He is so appreciative and just amazed by everyone’s support. We greatly appreciate everyone’s prayers, well-wishes and donations. We have a great community that just comes together in times of need.”

As of Saturday, more than $16,500 has been raised on the GoFundMe site. That’s a tremendous outpouring of support for a man who has touched so many here.
