Plan brings Share A Dream memories

Two decades ago, this region was captivated by an event that included lots of big rigs. Each year, Share A Dream truck drivers would gather and take youths on a ride around the community as a way of boosting spirits.

A family in Brocton is hoping to restart that tradition.

After a 10th birthday party for Nathen Lindstrom that featured trucks driving by during the pandemic, his mother, Johnnie, made a pitch for a larger-community gathering. She calls it a Horns for Hope Convoy. She made her first pitch to the Brocton Village Board last month.

“It’s definitely spreading and we’re looking for community feedback,” she said. “This is something great and something we can do even now. It will bring a lot of joy for all of us that remember the old parades, and for those who want to participate.”

She has already created a Facebook page that has 150 likes and the event has a target date of July 31. Her vision is to begin the event at the fairground and have the trucks travel to nearby towns and villages.

Plans for this –as with everything else — have one thing that must be considered. Where the area and nation is in its fight against COVID-19. While we aim to be together, we also must be safe.
