Process beginning to speed up

For weeks, Chautauqua County officials have pleaded with residents for “patience” during the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccinations. The process has not been perfect, as many can attest.

However, in recent weeks, there has been some reason for optimism as more are being vaccinated now than in the past. The result of that, for the most part, is due to actions by the federal government to increase supplies to New York state.

Through Monday, about 18% of this county had its first shot and more than 10,500 had both doses. That’s reassuring news.

In recent days, hundreds have attended clinics at both Jamestown Community College and the State University of New York at Fredonia. In addition, Brooks-TLC Hospital System is doing its share as are some local pharmacies, including CVS.

Those receiving shots, for the most part, have been impressed by the orderliness of the clinics. “The line was long but it went by really fast,” said Karen Carney, a Jamestown Community College student. “Everyone was really nice and they talked you through what was going on.”

It is taking some time with the vaccine. We are getting there.
