It is not too early to talk about high school graduation. In Gowanda, the district has already begun to plan for ceremonies on June 25.

According to a recent school board meeting, the ceremonies will be held in person and outdoors at Hillis Field. The whole class will be there and parents will be allowed, although there are limited tickets. Principal Rebekah Moraites said students can expect a letter going home soon with more details.

It has been a tough year for many in the Class of 2021 due to COVID-19. Many of the memories so many of us cherish have been missed by this year’s seniors.

Graduation is one of those special one-in-a-lifetime events. We hope other schools follow Gowanda’s lead. A ceremony outdoors is likely the safest — and best way — to proceed.
