NRG: No easy answers for former plant

Back in May, we opined in this space that there was a lot of work to be done before a new future dawns on the former NRG power plant in Dunkirk.

Now, we have a better idea just how far into the future that new use may be. Frankly, people shouldnát hold their breath.

Simply clearing the site will cost at least $38 million, a price tag that will scare off many potential clients and is far too expensive for local entities to tackle. Reusing the existing site would seem to be the preferred avenue, but a new use for the site is complicated by the fact the NRG site surrounds a second site used by National Grid for a substation.

The only thing we know for sure is even more depressing. Weáre looking at more studies on the site ä and those studies will cost more money.

Ugh. This is starting to look like quite the quagmire that we could be looking at years go get out of.
