FORESTVILLE Food truck worth the effort

As a school community, those who live in the Forestville area are some of the most giving. Based on the last Board of Education meeting, the district is working to return the favor.

Forestville Central School is looking to expand its Farm to School Grant. Through the program, it has been able to replace a lot of old cafeteria equipment and is now looking for an additional $100,000 to purchase a food truck or food trailer.

“We would use this food truck to disseminate free food to our families over the summer,” said Forestville Superintendent Renee Garrett. “And possibly use it as another site for our high school cafeteria, so students could actually go outside and eat at the food truck.”

Forestville is like so many other small-school districts in our county. It is a gathering place.

In the meantime, the school’s effort for a food truck could be a model for other rural districts. We already know, based on county poverty rates, the need is great.
