FREDONIA: Board’s hospital OK still important

Fredonia Planning Board did exactly what it had to do earlier this month. In unanimously approving a third-year extension on the former Cornell Cooperative Extension site for the what could be a new Brooks-TLC Hospital System Inc. facility, it ended any further chaos.

That embattled organization does not need any more of that. With the board’s OK, it’s now up to Brooks-TLC to get moving.

On Tuesday afternoon, a change in leadership will not hinder any operations. Kenneth Morris has been second-in-command at the facility since 2018. He’s aware of the history — and the current worries — facing the institution.

“Services have to match what the community needs, definitely,” said Mary E. LaRowe, who is retiring on Monday regarding the new building. “We’re as frustrated as anyone else that this (new facility) is not out here. … We think that this is the time to push on forward.”

Planning Board members and those in attendance were in agreement: the north county needs a health-care facility.
