Do not pin your hopes on a regional high school, warns a local school board member.
Jay Baker, a Chautauqua Lake board member and Brocton businessman, chatted with me on Thursday morning regarding the defeated merger between Westfield and Brocton schools. During the interview, he mentioned he has no hopes for the regional high school.
"That’s out of our hands," he said, noting the regional school plan has been proposed for the last three years, but gets shot down in Albany budget discussions since downstate legislators who make up a large chunk of the state Assembly and Senate have not made the issue a priority.
Baker was one of the leading advocates for the merger of the Chautauqua and Mayville districts, which produced the Chautauqua Lake Central School. Read more on his comments in the link to my Oct. 11 Publisher's notebook at right.
