‘We need more people’

January 20, 2013

By RON DeCHARD Have you noticed lately that the majority of elected officials in this county feel they do not answer to their constituents? Now I’m not saying all of them, but there seems to be a......

"The closing of the school will damage the entire community."

I'm curious how this will be?

I mean many communities in the County don't have their own school and yet they have managed to survive for decades without significant damage

Well the first issue this raises is are officials elected to vote how they think is correct or to vote based on what group yells the loudest on any given issue?

If they are supposed to vote the way their constituents want, no matter their own opinion, which constituents would that be? Everyone living in the district, just registered voters, only those who voted in the previous election, only those who voted for them in the previous election or just whoever yells the loudest?

"We tend to forget these issues and when someone runs unopposed it makes it all the easier for them to continue on their path."

Actually some might counter that if a person runs unopposed for re-election for an office that their actions must not have been to out of line or someone would have stepped up to run against them.

Whistle, you are obviously are an individual with a very high opinion of yourself, but lacking intelligence. There is no good reason to close down that school: school taxes won't ever go down, and no money will be saved. The school board wants to close CES, but is giving the administration raises again?? It's best for the entire community to keep the school open, not just because it is 'convenient' for Mr. De chard. The closing of the school will damage the entire community.

Also, I applaud this article- it was very well written, has a very valid point, and strengthens a favorite quote of mine "You can't complain if you aren't involved!"

That is correct. I ran unopposed. That was the point of my article which obviously you could not understand. We have Village Caucus this Tuesday at 7PM. Maybe you can show up and run for a local office? There are three openings. You'll be at the hall anyhow right?

Mr. Dechard, have you ever considered that even though a handful of people have signed petitions to keep Cassadaga Elementary open that there are more people against it because it makes absolutely more sense to not keep a building open for 50 kids and pay a staff almost equal that. plus heat, electric.... Perhaps your panties are wadded up because it is less "convenient" for you and your wife. Oh, and didn't you run unopposed?
