EVANS, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a motorist whose vehicle was hit by a train at a western New York railroad crossing has died.
Police in the Erie County town of Evans initially wouldn't confirm whether anyone was killed when a westbound Norfolk Southern freight train hit the car around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials now tell local media outlets that that the vehicle's driver was killed. His name hasn't been released.
An autopsy is scheduled Thursday.
Two crew members aboard the train weren't injured.
The cause of the collision is being investigated.
Evans is located on Lake Erie about 10 miles south of Buffalo.
