APPARENT CHOICE PRODUCTS OFFER A LONG-TERM RETURN IN SAVINGS

March 31, 2009
Observer Today

In a turbulent economy, it may be difficult to imagine any investment being safe, but the home improvement options at Apparent Choice can provide their owners healthy returns in terms of energy bill savings and increased resale values for years to come.

And under new and modified tax credits recently signed into law by President Obama, now is an opportune time to take advantage of expertly-installed, energy-efficient windows, skylights and other products.

Tax credits are available on a number of energy-efficient home improvement products, from windows to roofing, and can recover up to 30 percent of the cost of the product. But not just anything labeled "energy-efficient" may be eligible; there are relatively high standards set in terms of what will qualify under the tax credit program.

Apparent Choice's Signature Series windows, according to founder and president Bill Hollman, do not only qualify under the new law, but come with a written guarantee that they will save 40 percent on energy bills as well.

"The average heating bill is $150 per month, balanced billing," Hollman said. "Over 10 years, with just a 10 percent price increase, the average homeowner spends $33,660 over a 10 year period heating their home. Our Signature Series windows will save about $13,464 of that."

Although Apparent Choice is locally owned and operated, it has been influenced by knowledge gained on the national corporate stage. Hollman, after working with Sears as a national installation manager, returned to the area and established Apparent Choice more than five years ago. What he learned during his time with Sears he has applied to his own business and products, including the custom-manufactured Signature Series.

Testimonials

from Apparent Choice customers

"We had 18 windows installed in March of 2008 during some very cold weather and the two men had the job completely finished in 2.5 days. We would like you to know how pleased we were with the job the men did and also the quality of the windows were just as you said they would be."

-Mike and Kathy Smyczcik

"I would like to thank everyone for the great job. Your installers were great and knowledgeable. They even completed their work in a thunder and lightning storm. There was nothing to clean up. No stickers to remove. They even washed the windows. Never had service like this before. Thanks again."

-Debra Chambers

"From the very beginning of our relationship with Apparent Choice, we could tell how professional your group was. The presentation Sean made to us on the value of the windows and savings we would ultimately achieve was very well done. Then, when the crew (Darren, Jim, Dan, Todd and Glen) showed up for the install and took all the care to make us comfortable with how they were going to proceed, it really put us at ease with the whole event. We could not believe how well the windows went in and the care the crew took to create as little mess as possible. We watched as they went through their daily cleanup and how minimally they disrupted the yard, even though the weather was a bit on the cold side. We can see the benefits of the new windows and look forward to many years with them. We don't hear or feel any wind draft coming into the house like the old windows did. We've been able to keep our thermostat lower and don't notice the house getting cold."

-Rick and Nancy Taaffe

"I've toured over 100 window manufacturers in the United States and I basically took all the good ideas I've seen everybody else using - each window manufacturer always had their specific quirk or their feature that was better than somebody else's - and basically took all of those ideas and rolled them into one package. It's just an incredible window."

Home improvements can also recoup much of their costs by increasing the selling value of a home. In some cases, an addition can even add more value to a home than the cost of constructing it. One such opportunity, according to Hollman, comes in adding a sunroom to a house. Not only does the average return on investment for a sunroom average around 130 percent - with sunroom-equipped homes typically increasing in value and selling faster than normal homes - but the "home away from home" atmosphere potentially derived from one can lead to increased activities and fun in one's own backyard.

"We've had it worded just like that: that it was a vacation to their day," Hollman said.

Apparent Choice has plenty of other options to pursue for not only increasing the efficiency of one's home, but the aesthetic appeal for current owners or a potential buyer. The company also specializes in Charter Oak Premium Vinyl Siding, Timberline Series Roofing Shingles, retractable awnings and decks.

Regardless of what Apparent Choice has been contracted to build or install, the business prides itself on workers who are not only factory certified and trained, but also fast, courteous and professional during all points of the project. A growing collection of testimonials written by some of the more than 700 customers served by Apparent Choice help back up the company's claims.
