MAYVILLE - Fredonia (6-0) outlasted Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake (4-2), 49-16, Wednesday in CCAA Division 1 wrestling action, at Chautauqua Lake.
"Anytime you wrestle Fredonia, no matter the year or the day, they're going to be prepared," Ripley head coach Brad Rowe said. "I think our boys wrestled hard, but just lost to a great team."
The Hillbillies won 11 of the 15 matches, but just three by pins, as WRCL held the early edge 14-9 after Roger Williams pinned Fredonia's John Saeli in 5:05 in the match at 120 pounds.

"He wrestled tough," Fredonia head coach Alex Conti said of Williams. "Both boys look a little young as far as wrestlers go, but Roger just kept at it and caught John on his back. And when he catches people on their backs, they're pretty much done. And that's what happened."
From there however, the Hillbillies took over as they won the next five matches to pull away.
"It was an outstanding match from beginning to end," Conti said. "Both teams had a lot of fight in them. I was very, very proud of the effort I got from all the guys."
Dakota Gardner started the winning streak by beating Damian Raynor, 16-0, at 126, while Tyler Cassidy pinned Kale Gilbert in 4:46 to take the match at 132. Julius Woma put the Hillbillies' streak at three in a row by winning a hard-fought match at 138 over Nolan Hunt, 8-7.
"Julius wrestled a terrific match against Nolan," Conti said. "He's a solid wrestler, but Julius came up with an 8-7 win. It was non-stop action. There was a lot of scrambling and a lot of motion, both guys picked up points here and there. It was just a great match. To watch two kids wrestle that good was just super."
Damian Degolier won at 145 over Jeremy Gilbert, 11-1, for Fredonia's fourth straight win, before Jude Gardner beat Nick Zentz at 152, 16-4.
"I was very proud of Damian," Conti said. "It's immeasurable how much he's improved over the last two years and that match was probably the best match I've seen him wrestle. I'm very proud of his effort. To me, that was the tide turner. We were back and forth and when Damian wrestled like that, and won that match, it got the guys fired up and set a nice tone for the rest of the evening."
Caleb Lawson broke the streak, giving WRCL a win at 160, as he defeated Sean Sluberski, 6-5, but the rest of the night belonged to Fredonia, as Steve Mignoli (170), Zach Buckley (182), Nick Nocek (195) and Chris Saden (220) won the last four matches for the 49-16 win.
"I was extremely proud of the way our guys were shooting and re-shooting and finishing," Conti said. "I just thought it was a solid performance for us and something we really needed."
Mignoli beat Dom Rammelt, 7-1, Buckley topped Tyler Furlow, 14-4, Nocek cruised past Cody Bird, 19-4 and Saden pinned Trevor Enterline in 3:01.
"Our kids fought hard," Rowe added. "But they were a step above. They're always tough."
Also winning for Ripley were D.J. Hammrick (285) and Bryce Rowe (99). Hammrick beat Steve Mignoli, 11-2, while Rowe topped Ben McKelvey, 10-0.
Fredonia will be at the Lockport Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
