MAYVILLE - The Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds(5-4, 7-8) used a 34-12 second-half advantage to defeat the Ripley Eagles (0-9, 0-12) in non-league boys high school basketball action Thursday.
The winless Eagles bounced back from a 14-4 halftime deficit to outscore the Wolverines, 18-16, in the second quarter.
"Ripley came tonight ready to play," Chautauqua Lake coach Chris Dole said. "They battled us in the first half and made a game of it."
Chautauqua Lake used Cody Thomas' 24 points to pull away in the second half while Ian Clute's 18 boards and five assists - leading the team in both categories - allowed the home team to outpace Ripley.
"Clute was key to our game tonight, as his rebounding helped lead to numerous fast break opportunities," Dole said. "Cody Thomas showed some senior leadership when we faced adversity."
Clute added 12 points in the win.
Vinny Schioleno led the Eagles with 14 points and four steals while Ian Petroff added 10 points.
Chautauqua Lake returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Franklinville while Ripley plays Brocton on Tuesday.
