Boy Scout Troop 267 took a weekend in February to enjoy some snowy fun at Camp Merz in Mayville. While camping, the boys finished a 2-mile hike, did some sledding, had some campfire meals, and learned a few things about Ice Rescue on Chautauqua Lake from the Dewittville Fire Department, while visiting the Ice Castle Extravaganza in Mayville Community Park. Camping for the scouts is provided by BSA Twin Lakes District, Allegheny Highlands Council camping reserves and are open all 12 months for scouting use.
Troop 267 BSA, is a growing organization boasting an almost 30 member group of boys aged 11-18. The troop has been commended in the past year for its ability to recruit and retain scouts. Any boy aged 11-18 who enjoys camping and outdoor adventure is welcome to join the Boy Scouts of America. The troop meets most Mondays at the American Legion Post 59 in Fredonia.
Additional scouting information is available at www.bsa.org. Keep an eye out for some of the troop's future fundraising events. Coming this spring is the Schwann freezer truck sale and a Chiavetta's chicken barbecue. The proceeds help fund troop activities. All events will be posted in the Dunkirk OBSERVER.
