FORESTVILLE - St. Rose of Lima Church, 11 Center St. in Forestville, will be the site of clowning around this year at the 30th Annual Chicken BBQ and Lawn Fete. On Sunday Aug. 4, the church grounds will be transformed into a festive carnival.
Each year the committee responsible for presenting this event decides on the theme of the festival. In past years the themes have been the '50s, country and luau. This year Faith Mierzwa, a younger parishioner, spoke up and announced that she had always wanted the carnival/circus theme. What better time to have a carnival and celebrate than the 30th year? It's rumored that parishioners are dressing up as clowns, snake charmers, strong men, bearded ladies and maybe even a carnie or two.
When we think of carnival, we think of fun and that's what is happening this year on Sunday. Festivities begin at noon. Events planned include games for the kids, games for the adults, huge and colorful theme baskets (our famous gift basket extravaganza), raffles, food and beverages. The Chiavetta's chicken barbecue dinner will be held in the air-conditioned "Big Top" church hall. The price remains the same: $8.50 for adults and $5 for children. The refreshment stand outside will feature italian sausage, hamburgers and hot dogs. What is a carnival without cotton candy, fried dough and french fries all at affordable prices!
Special features include the Big Raffle with the top prize of $1,000 with many more gift and money prizes. Tickets can be purchased that day or by calling Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church office (934-2233).
Musical entertainment will be by the Ko Ko Mo Band and DJ Craig Briggs from MC MusiK CO.
Although the festival is on Sunday only, the trash and treasures booth will open early this morning and continue on Sunday.
Fr. Dan Fiebelkorn, pastor of the Faith Community of OLMC, invites one and all to come to our carnival for a wonderful fun-filled day with family and friends. You may come dressed up as a circus performer, a carnie, or as yourself. Bring a friend or two, stay for the day and enjoy the music and festivities.
