ERIE, Pa. - Fredonia State outscored 13 other teams Saturday to win the Penn State Behrend Invitational men's cross country championship Saturday on the Behrend campus.
The men went four, five and six with Zach Hess leading the way, 25:54 for eight kilometers. Hess was followed by Steve Whittemore, fifth in 26:05; and Chris Shartrand, sixth in 26:07.
The fourth and fifth Blue Devils were Collin Mulcahy (10th in 26:31) and Kyle Collins (14th in 26:37). The sixth- and seventh-place displacements were provided by Cody Martini (20th in 27:07) and Jed Kovalovsky (23rd in 27:12).
Fredonia State recorded 39 team points to finish ahead of Lake Erie with 45, Penn State Behrend with 68 and Buffalo State with 85. Lake Erie is an NCAA Division II team.
Saturday sweep, Madison
earns third all-tourney
ROCHESTER - Fredonia State swept University of Rochester, 3-0, and Medaille, 3-0, in Saturday women's volleyball matches at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.
The Blue Devils improved to 7-4 with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Rochester. They upped their record to 8-4 by defeating Medaille 25-22, 25-15, 22-19.
Jessica DiChristopher filled scoresheet columns vs. Rochester with six kills, four service aces, and six total blocks.
Kaitlin Orcutt and Liza Beardsley also had six kills while Kelly Edinger collected 25 assists, and Brittney Kelly had 19 digs.
Paulina Rein and all-tournament selection Sara Madison had 10 kills each vs. Medaille, while DiChristopher added nine kills.
Rein's 12 digs led the Blue Devils, one more than Kelly, while Edinger topped the team with 36 assists and four service aces.
It was the third straight weekend Madison has been chosen to an all-tourney team in her first three tries.
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Fredonia State fell to 3-3 with a 2-0 loss to Geneva in men's soccer Saturday.
Luke Tylutki took three shots and Mike Schreiner made four saves for the Blue Devils, who'll return home to meet Nazareth at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The win lifted Geneva to 3-2-1.
