JAMESTOWN - The League of Women Voters will hold a luncheon today at the Moonbrook Country Club.
Lunch will begin at noon with the program, "The Gun: The What and The Who," following at 1 p.m.
In light of recent tragic shooting events, the League feels it is important to start and continue a dialogue about gun control, an often-sensitive topic.
Items on the agenda include the banning of assault weapons, limited magazine capacities, record keeping and background checks. Questions will be addressed by the panel, such as whether or not background checks are enforceable and if semiautomatic weapons should be so readily available.
The panel of experts includes Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace, who has been with the Sheriff's office for over 30 years; Amanda Walden, past hunter training safety educator for the NYS Dept. of Conservation; Sid Compton, Chautauqua County Chapter Chairman of the state group SCOPE (Shooters' Committee on Political Education); and John Glenzer, past County Executive (two terms), County Legislator (four terms), hunter for over 50 years.
The luncheon will be $17 per person. Checks can be sent to Tillie Solomonson, 2 Waldemere Way, Lakewood, N.Y. 14750.
