Jessica Sowa Grade 12; mathematics
Jessica was nominated by John Beaumarriage because she has had a perfect score in calculus and JCC Calculus for five straight quarters. She is a self-motivated learner with consistent, high-quality standards. She is on the Calculus Wall of Fame. She is persistent at problem solving. Jessica is trustworthy, reliable and represents the best in her graduating class. Jessica participates in varsity tennis, basketball and softball. She is the Vice President of the National Honor Society and a Quiz Bowl member. Outside of school she participates in Youth Group and is a counselor for the winter recreation program. Jessica's feels that everyone has the potential to follow his or her dream; her advice is "Just Do It!"
Michelle Merrill Grade 11; language
Michelle was nominated by Barb Dempsey because she is always on time and prepared for Spanish class. She is respectful of her peers and her teachers. Michelle is involved in many musical activities and yet maintains high scholastic standards. Her determination and commitment to excellence make her an outstanding student. Michelle is known for the smile on her face and she is truly fun to work with. Michelle is a wonderful role model for other students. Michelle is an active member of SADD and Student Council as well as a GCS cheerleader. Outside of school she takes tumbling classes and teaches as well. After high school her plan is to attend a four-year college to major in nursing. Eventually she would like to work in the NICU.
Ryan Monat Grade 9; the arts
Ryan was nominated by Robin Smith because he has shown outstanding leadership in the vocal program this year. He holds the position of section leader in mixed chorus. Ryan helps others who need musical assistance. Ryan's ability to perform as an upper level musician is evident in his daily participation in chorus and band, as well as his involvement in extra-curricular musical activities such as all-county chorus. Ryan graced the high school stage as a cast member in Shrek the Musical this past November. Ryan is a wonderful role model for all students. His dedication, positive attitude and work ethic, make Ryan a joy to work with!
Ryan runs both cross country and track and is a member of the STEM program. After high school his plan is to become a doctor or a musician. His advice to students is to work hard toward goals and not to give up.
