Descendants from the Washington family met recently for their annual family reunion at the Cassadaga American Legion Picnic Grounds in Cassadaga. Past president Gail Dash presided over the recent gathering, and welcomed all to the 97th reunion. The group is known as the "Washingtons of Dunkirk."
The family's original emigrants were John Thomas and Elizabeth Ward Washington, who traveled from Littleport, England in the 1902-1905 time span with 12 of their 13 children. They built a house on West Sixth Street where the family was raised.
Carl Richter gave the blessing prior to the luncheon, giving thanks for the opportunity for the family members to gather together for this occasion. Family members brought food that was served in a buffet style. The group is known for making delicious homemade pies. Cooked ribs were provided by the Cassadaga Shur-Fine. Table decorations of flowers were provided by Miriam Washington of Cassadaga.

For his efforts, he was invited to London England to present his Astrolabe. Anna Washington of California was awarded the prize for traveling the farthest. Natalie Hannum discussed some of the old family furniture which she had recently refinished, and said its usefulness continues.
Descendants from 9 of the 13 original children were present for the reunion. Following the business meeting, a group photograph was taken by past president John Sipos of Cassadaga.
