Denise Sealander fundraiser Saturday
There will be a yard sale and bake sale fundraiser to benefit Denise Sealander on Saturday at American Legion Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Items are needed for the event and can be dropped off at the club through Thursday from 3 to 10 p.m. No clothing or shoes.
The bake sale will be from 9 a.m. until sold out. Baked goods are also needed and can be dropped off Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
This fundraiser is sponsored by the American Legion and the Sheridan VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Annual cemetery board meeting Aug. 30
The Forestville Cemetery Association, which now governs both the Pioneer Cemetery and the Forestville Cemetery in Forestville, will hold its annual meeting on Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Forestville Cemetery on Prospect Road, Forestville, near the building.
Shane Hawkins to appear on Chautauqua Sunrise
Chautauqua Sunrise will feature Shane Hawkins as the guest Saturday. Hawkins is with Infinity Performing Arts. The show will be hosted by Doc Hamels. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. The guest is subject to change.
Chautauqua Sunrise is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on Channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville. Viewers should note that all area public access channels have been dropped from Time Warner's analog service, but can be received on digital service with a converter at their legacy channel assignment, or on a digital television (channel varies by system) that has been recently autoscanned. Programming from Access Channel 5 (channel 21.4 on a QAM digital TV) is also aired each evening in the town of Hanover on cable channel 12 (channel 98.3 on a QAM digital TV).
Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host
The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road in Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m. CJCA provides training to begin a career in the healthcare, construction and the security industries, as well as high school equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in certified nurse aide, carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical are available as well as the advanced training for licensed practical nurse. CJCA will soon offer a security and protective services program. CJCA will accept young adults, age 16-24, who are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career. Applicants can apply for on-center living or non-residential status, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted. Low water pressure possible today
Residents in the vicinity of South Roberts Road from Talcott Street to Benton Street in Dunkirk may experience low water pressure today beginning at 7:30 a.m. Dunkirk Public Works Water Department will be working in the area.
Red Cross responds
to Dunkirk fire
Members of the Southwestern NY American Red Cross Disaster Team responded to provide disaster relief following a fire on West Main Street in Dunkirk Saturday morning.
Disaster Team member Mary Walker responded to provide initial disaster assistance for a family of four. Temporary housing, clothing, and meals are services typically offered to address emergency needs. The local Red Cross chapter will continue working with the individuals and their recovery process if additional services or referrals are necessary.
